Macintosh Tips & Shortcuts

The Basics..

Not too much will go wrong on a Mac,
but if you get poor performance,
do the same as we recommend on a PC.

Simplify, then Add, then Test

Simplify = Turn off all extensions, (the things that load at startup, programs, system tools, drivers, etc)
To boot with no extensions, hold down the SHIFT key while the Mac is turning on

If the Mac does better with all the extensions off, then you're off to track down what was not needed

Add = Now go to the EXTENSION MANAGER in the Mac control panels Create a new set of Extensions from the drop down menu at the top of the control panel, start with a "Base Set" and ...

Test = restart the Mac with the new set of extensions, see how it performs. If it's better than you are in good shape, add what ever else you might need from the "Extensions Manager" control Panel a few at a time, then restart and test

Follow this process to get he Mac to start with less running, so it has more potential waiting for you

Would you like the small pictures to get larger?
Let us know, use the feedback form to request larger pictures.

It's a lot more work to load all the large pictures.
We are happy to do it if they are requested, but if not we leave them small to save time
